Abciximab is the Fab fragment of the chimeric human mouse monoclonal antibody 7E3. Abciximab binds to human platelet glycoprotein (GP) IIb/IIIa receptors and inhibits platelet aggregation by preventing the binding of fibrinogen, von Willebrand factor and other adhesion molecules. It also binds to vitronectin (?v?3) receptors found on platelets, vascular wall endothelial cells and smooth muscle cells.
