Description of Glycoprotein
General Information about Glycoprotein
Attaching the virus to the host cell receptor induces endocytosis of virus particles. In endosomes, acidic pH induces conformational changes of glycoprotein trimers, which triggers the fusion between the virus and the cell membrane. There is convincing in vitro evidence that the muscle forms of nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR), neuronal cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) and p75 neurotrophin receptor (p75NTR) bind to glycoproteins, thereby promoting rabies virus entry into cells (by similarity).
