EGFR (Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor, also known as ERBB1 or HER1) is a transmembrane receptor tyrosine kinase, composed of an extracellular ligand binding domain, a transmembrane region and an intracellular tyrosine kinase domain.
EGFR is activated by binding of its ligand, epidermal growth factor (EGF). This binding causes a conformational change in the receptor, leading to autophosphorylation of its tyrosine kinase domain and the initiation of downstream signaling pathways.
EGFR is involved in a variety of cellular processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, and migration. It is also a target for antibody-drug conjugates, which are used in the treatment of various cancers.
