Description of Diphtheria toxin
General Information about Diphtheria toxin
Diphtheria toxin is a complete toxin catalyst and protein synthesis inhibitor of ADP-ribosylation of EF-2. Diphtheria toxin from Corynebacterium diphtheriae can inhibit protein synthesis by catalyzing the ADP-ribosylation of eukaryotic aminoacyltransferase II (EF-2). Diphtheria toxin is cell permeable and can be transported across the endosomal membrane in response to low pH3. Diphtheria toxin is synthesized and excreted as an enzyme and must undergo two covalent changes to be activated
